Having a double booking because your brain sometimes overflow can happen. At this shoot with Rachel Nordtømme I had just did that. To maintain the pace and production in addition to studying, I had a goal to have at least one extra photo shoot a week so keeping track on what deals I had done with what models was a bit of a challenge. The other model I also had made a deal with that evening was Trine Eide. Luckily for me Line Sofie Steinfinsbø was up for the challenge doing hair and make-up on both models. I remember Rachel was a bit of an underdog when she discovered that Trine also was going to model at the same time, but I calmed her down telling her to watch Trine and she might pick up some tricks. I believe Rachel did great on this shoot showing of a more bad ass attitude than she does in for instance Adressa’s Advent Calender with Rachel Nordtømme;)
Keeping the cost reduced by having the model bring some of their own clothes is a great way to practicing photography. My main goal in having to do photo shoots, or something with photo each day, even Sundays or in the holiday is to get better at it. One cannot get any better without practice. By doing shoots as often as you can, the different techniques you obtain can be applied when it really counts, both when it comes to lighting your scene and setting up your camera, but also the experience by directing a model finding out what works and what not to do. The look it self on the final result does not really depend on what the model is wearing or what make-up he or she has put on, it is what you manage to have your model to express that gives the image interestingness. Okay, you need to have some idea of what clothes to bring and what to put together, but all in all for practicing, it doesn’t really matter. Rachel had an okay wardrobe and we stuck with what she had.

Starting at Fotofagskolen I was pretty fresh shooting fashion photography. I didn’t have that much experience or “the right” inspirations to build my own shoots. After learning some techniques and leafing through various fashion magazines I got an understanding of what you should do in an editorial series. In spring of my first year, Tina Larsen from fstyle.blogg.no/a> asked me to help her out on her final exam at H2 shooting an avant garde, baroque-inspired fashion series. She showed me some inspirational photos and we discussed what location we should use. Having shot a lot of photos at NTNU Gløshaugen and Hovedbygget, the choice was quite easy. For my inspiration I used Cinderella and the Czech movie Three Wishes for Cinderella (Tri orísky pro Popelku) which in Norwegian tradition is always showing on Christmas eve. Our model was Trine Eide. I called NTNU and asked to use their building for location and got a yes.
Having helping me out as an assistant on this shoot was my friend Sascha Njaa. Before the photo shoot we went to the location places and angles fit for a backdrop. The photos were to be put in Tina’s final portfolio and viewed at a catwalk show the students at H2-Akademiet had put together later that month.
Having found quite a few spots to shoot at the location I was able to shoot a huge variation for the series. This particular photo was shot in a large window facing south, at the opposite side I had my huge bed sheet reflector which gave me enough light to get a decent exposure in the front of the model. Having a stylist doing clothing, hair and make-up doing the styling of your photo shoots helps you a great deal getting the photos you want to shoot. Have common understanding on what your theme and photo style should be. Tina passed her exam and is now working as a hairdresser at Heads Up Hårsalong på Byåsen and a freelance stylist.

These photos are from the first part of the fashion / hair-trend show at Radisson Blu Royal Garden Hotel in Trondheim. The first show was held by hair dressers and stylists from Heads Up Hårstudio in Trondheim. Models are both represented by Trend Models and DP Models. Also on the runway was some of the band members from Irresistible who is competing in the Norwegian Grand Prix this spring. Tina Larsen had put together a great show for us.

Saturday OI Hår og Velvære and Heads Up Hårstudio arranged a fashion show showing off hair trends and styles. These pictures are from “Julecupen” a competition where the contestants style a model from top to toe, hair, make-up and clothes. Lotte Aalberg Kalvø (OI Hår og Velvære), with her model Stian Marius Sivertsen, won the category Male Fashion. Congratulations!

Here is a small collection of images from “OI hair & wellnessa” and “Heads Up | hair salons” her fashion show where they showed off hair trends. Catwalk was placed at the Radisson Blue Royal Garden Hotel in Trondheim, where models from both Trend Models and DP Models were represented, and some volunteers second hårmodeller. OI’s style focused primarily on different Lady Gaga, haircuts and styling by Matt Heitmann at the forefront. Tina Larsen and Heads Up had booked including Shadi from Idol go had a more Fam Irvoll-inspired, classic fashion show.
Sunday I shot two fashion-shoots with Rachel Nordtømme and Trine Eide. Makeup artist were Line Sofie Steinfinsbø and the theme were tough. T-shirts are from H&M.
Sick leave for a week
It’s less than two weeks until I am leaving for Marrakesh, school trip with Norsk Fotofagskole. Last week I took the dukoral, the cholera vaccine, and reacted quite badly. I got almost a week sick leave for having hyperthermia, a running nose, soar throat and head ache. I thought I was well Sunday morning so I went on photographing the shoot with Rachel and Trine, when I got home I got worse again. I will be up and fighting on Thursday, hopefully :)

A bit too early after being ill for three days now I shot two fashion series with Rachel Nordtømme and Trine Eide a bit like the ones I shot of Oda Nordheim last Sunday. Today, my makeup artist Line Sofie Steinfinsbø, started with laying makeup and doing Trine’s hair. After a while Rachel arrived and got her hair and makeup done while I was photographing Trine. A helpful Sascha Njaa helped me rig the studio, both setting up the flash heads and meter the light.
Between the takes we got serious and shot some amazing pictures.

(Beklager! Det skjedde noe spacet med opplastinga til Flickr så jeg er litt usikker på om alle bildene kommer i kronologisk rekkefølge i forhold til når jeg tok hvilket bilde. Håper kronologien ikke har så mye å si i forhold til innholdet i galleriet.)
I går gikk H2-Akademietscatwalkshow av stabelen på Rick’s Café i Trondheim hvor studentene ved skolen fikk muligheten til å vise frem det de kunne. Temaet for make-up-linja var vampyrer / goth-inspirert og for frisørlinja var det barokk. Catwalken var satt opp nede i kjelleren på Rick’s Café og i foajeen hang bildene jeg hadde tatt av Trine Eide og Marie Folstad jeg hadde tatt for Tina Larsen på NTNU Gløshaugen i forrige uke.
Hele dagen var rimelig hektisk med både forsøk på klesdeponering, par-fotografering til bryllupsinbydelser og backstagefotografering på H2-Akademiet (sminking og oppsett av hår).

Det første bildet er gjort mest for gøy og er på en måte blitt signatur-poseringen jeg kjører på alle modellene jeg fotograferer. Det er en korny, merkelig posering som egentlig ikke hører hjemme noen steder. Det andre bildet er i Askepott-stilen igjen hvor bevegelse var hovedmotivet. På grunn av bevegelsesuskarphet og litt useriøs posering, samt at bildene ikke fremhevet styling, sminke og hår, ble de ikke levert til Tina, på tross av at jeg selv ble relativt fornøyd med resultatet.
I morgen starter dagen med å finne klær til et foto-opptak jeg skal gjøre med Marion Dyrvik Homlong, vinner av Models of Norway, på Lørdag. Hvis alt går etter planen skal Andrea Utvik Karlsen (Drea.se) være med å assistere meg på opptaket. Foreløpig er planen parkeringshus og/eller studio siden været her i Trønderteig ikke har de beste utsiktene for helga. Etter en rask klesrunde blir det pre-bryllupsfoto på skolen for å fotografere inn “invitasjonsbilder” til et bryllup jeg skal fotografere i Mai, før turen går til H2-Akademiet / Rick’s Café for å fotografere backstage av hårshowet hvor blant annet Trine, Marion og Marie skal gå catwalk. Showet starter rundt 19 og noen nærmere plan har jeg ikke fått. Av andre fotografer som skal være der å knipse er Sascha Njaa.
Invitasjonsbildene blir høyst sannsynlig fotografert med en Hasselblad, hvilket betyr at jeg på Søndag garantert blir stående å fremkalle og scanne film på skolen. Noen som sa helg betydde fri?

Her er to nye bilder fra modelltestinga på tirsdag med Marion Dyrvik Homlong. Bildet er lyssatt med kun én lyskilde hvor en stor softboks er snudd opp mot taket. Lyset er målt til f/4.0 på modellen og har et lite lysavfall fra modellen til bakgrunnen på en halv blender. Dette oppsettet lærte jeg på Norsk Fotofagskole av Geir Terje Nergaard og har så og si blitt forelsket i det.

De to siste dagene har jeg ikke bare holdt på å skyte inn modellkort-bilder for Marion Dyrvik Homlong, men også hun som oftest legger sminke og setter opp hår på opptakene mine behøvde bilder til en oppgave hun har på frisørlinja på H2-Akademiet her i byen. Oppgaven var å lage et barokk-inspirert fashion-oppsett eller noe i den duren. Den første dagen skøyt jeg inn bilder av Marion Dyrvik Homlong først, før Tina kom med en nesten ferdigsminka Marie Folstad. Den andre dagen møtte Sascha Njaa (assistenten min på opptakene), og meg opp på H2-Akademiet for så å bomme skyss med Tina opp til Gløshaugen.
Fotografiene jeg har lagt ut i dette innlegget er en lett blanding av lystesting, bak kulissene-bilder og location-inspirasjon av Hovedbygget på NTNU Gløshaugen. Som dere kanskje kan se ut i fra disse bildene velger jeg å gå for en blanding av tilstedeværende-, ambient-, naturlig- og reflektert lys og blitslys i form av to Nikon SB-900 Speedlights enten modifisert på paraplyer eller ved å skyte de igjennom et stort, hvitt laken.
Tina Larsen fra H2-Akademiet lovte å stille opp for å fikse hår og sminke til bildene og i neste uke kjører jeg tredje og siste runde opptak med Marion. På bildet i dette innlegget har Marion fiksa stylingen selv siden Tina kom en drøy time ute i første opptak. Sascha Njaa var så vennlig å assistere med både objektiv og lysrigging under opptakene på tirsdag.
Hva skjer
I dag er det først seminar med den norske fotografen Erik Almås på Norsk Fotofagskole, så blir det ny runde barokk-fotografering med Trine Eide for på Tina LarsenNTNU Gløshaugen i Hovedbygget. Som en liten avslutning på fotouka blir det aktfotografering på kvelden, men denne biten er ikke helt i boks enda.
