October 2010 I did a fashion shoot with Hedvig Kristine Sundland from Trend Models out on Trolla in Trondheim. Helping me out on the location was my friend Rune Johansen, doing hair and make-up was Tina Larsen currently working at Heads Up hårstudio. The shoot was quite cold and I was working with at that time, new flash equipment, Elinchrom Ranger.
This summer, 2011, I had a little photo project with Hedvig Khristine Sundland Trend Models. We drove a good distance out of town towards Røros and looked for locations we could get some nice pictures. We stopped at Kvikne and made some shots in a field next to Kvikne Church, before we turned around and drove towards Trondheim. Here are three pictures from Berkåk and an abandoned store. I do not know why, but photographers tend to be attracted to the rustic, abandoned and dilapidated. Styling, hair and make-up in this photo shoot was done by Hedvig herself.
RP: WHAT IS THE MOST EXCITING PART OF BEING A DESIGNER?
MLS: That I am a part of how society reacts to first impressions. Many people don’t think that designers have an important job, but if you think about it we’re the ones who decide what you’re wearing to a first date, how soccer-players uniforms should look like, if your outfit to the job interview helps you land the job etc. If there were no designers, there would be no clothes, no style, no fit, no trends, and no stores. Clothes are such a huge part of a person’s life, either if it is for pleasure, business or necessity.
Two photos from my “morning beauty“-shoot I did with Hedvig Kristine Sundland from Trend Models early one morning in the start of July 2011. We started at Kvikne driving towards Trondheim early morning. This particular photo is taken in the fields in Melhus.
Two more pictures from the road trip with Hedvig Kristine Sundland early July. These two pictures was photographed at a bus stop I had scouted a few weeks earlier driving home from the Foo Fighters concert with my two friends Martine Lein Skrove and Sascha Njaa, and my girlfriend. High ISO, large aparture and slow shutter speeds makes these two pictures a bit grainy and blurry.
Last week Hedvig Kristine Sundland from Trend Models and I went on a little road trip to Kvikne in the middle of the night and shot some photos for Hedvigs portfolio. Around 2 a.m. in the morning it was quite dark and I had to use ISO6400 on my Nikon D700 to get some decent exposures. With an aparture of f/2.8 and a shutter around 1/40 of a second the shots came out quite blurry and noisy, but it gave the series an all over realistic feeling.

This past two and a half months I’ve been filming quite a few videos with a Nikon D7000 I got to borrow from Nikon Norge. This piece is one of the last films I shot before I returned it back to Camera & Videoteknikk AS and is a behind the scenes-thing for Ane Aspen’s last shoot at Norsk Fotofagskole. The photos she shot of Hedvig Kristine Sundland fromTrend Models are going on display at Fokus, our exhibition today.
Makeup artist is Anniken Tiset, designer of the jacket is Marianne Høst, second assistant is Leiv Aspén from Buranhus.

Her er runde to av fashion-serien jeg hadde med Hedvig Kristine Sundland på Trolla. Sminke og hår er gjort av Tina Larsen, sko er lånt fra Bianco Footwear på Trondheim Torg. Hedvig tilhører modellbyrået Trend Models og har stått modell på en god del andre fashion-opptak med andre fotografer tidligere.
På disse bildene har jeg kjørt Elinchrom-ranger-blitsene rett på modellen igjennom en vanlig reflektor med grid for å gi bildene en litt råere stil enn den første delen. Jeg har også begynt å skyte bilder mer horisontalt for å bryte litt med det sikre mønsteret jeg har vendt meg til. Jeg har også skutt de fleste bildene med en Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 (fast, normalobjektiv) istedenfor å bruke 70-200 f/2.8. Det siste bildet i posten har jeg også lagt inn et lite plastfilter foran objektivet for å tilføre noe “ekstra” til bildet. Om det ble vellykket er jeg ikke så veldig sikker på selv.

Litt problemer
Blits
Jeg valgte å prøve ut Elinchrom Ranger RX Speed som lyskilde, men oppdaget fort at jeg fikk problemer med fargetemperaturen på lyset i forhold til å supplere settet med Nikon SB-900-blitser. Det andre problemet jeg opplevde var at begge uttakene på ranger-settet hadde et styrkeforhold 1/1 og ikke 2/3 og 1/3 som jeg hadde håpet på. I praksis ga begge lampene ut like mye guff. Det hadde ikke vært så veldig stort problem hadde kablene vært lengre.
Komposisjon
Jeg ble litt for satt på at blitsene ikke jobbet som jeg hadde lyst til samt at det var en stund siden jeg hadde fotografert noe som gjorde at komposisjoner, dramaturgi og stemnin over hele linja ble ganske kjedelig. Dog fikk jeg et lite knippe bilder jeg ble fornøyd med.
