In April I finally got to do a photo shoot with Sanne Ebbesen By from Trend Models, where she has been represented for a while. Luckily for us one of my favorite stylists was back in town and had time to do the styling for us. Since all three of us had roots from Orkdal we figured we should do the shoot there as well. Marthe booked Bårdshaug Herregård where I have done some shoots with Unni L and Maren Elise Aasen, both from Trend Models, earlier. After having studied at London College of Fashion for almost a year, Marthe had improved her style a bit and had picked out some cool outfits for us to work with.

Here are some old photos from an editorial fashion series I did at Bårdshaug three years ago.

Having a team around you on your photo shoot helps a lot. Having written only about older projects I wanted to show you something that I shot this year. It is a photo of Linda Fjølstad at Trend Models. It was shot at the same location I did my final exam at school, only a year or so later. Having done a lot of photo for the more common taste at Centerteam Reklamebyrå that spring I longed for doing something that not appealed to all. Helping me out on this shoot was Tina Larsen (fstyle.blogg.no). Having done a shoot an hour earlier with Zeleste Vejle, I picked up Marthe in Orkdal and drove off to Øysand where we arranged to meet with the model and hair and make-up artist. Knowing that there was a lot of drift wood and low tide in the area I chose that location for a reason. I hoped that this backdrop would give me a more of a deserted, post apocalyptic look and feel. All ready there Tina and Linda was almost done with the hair and make-up, I went to check out what angles and such was appropriate for the shoot. We had three or four different outfits to shoot, but having no strict plan nor any time schedule we mixed and made what fit the best and what we wanted the look to be. This is the most idealistic way for a photographer to work, great staff knowing their tasks, great weather and no stress.

Shooting these types of shots I tend to use my 35mm, in this shoot a f/2.0D, or a 70-200 f/2.8 telephoto lens, either to get closer to the model having some of the background in the frame to give the idea of the location with the wide angle or the telephoto lens to get those straight up and down shots focusing on the subject and just giving small hints on what is in the background.

Starting at Fotofagskolen I was pretty fresh shooting fashion photography. I didn’t have that much experience or “the right” inspirations to build my own shoots. After learning some techniques and leafing through various fashion magazines I got an understanding of what you should do in an editorial series. In spring of my first year, Tina Larsen from fstyle.blogg.no/a> asked me to help her out on her final exam at H2 shooting an avant garde, baroque-inspired fashion series. She showed me some inspirational photos and we discussed what location we should use. Having shot a lot of photos at NTNU Gløshaugen and Hovedbygget, the choice was quite easy. For my inspiration I used Cinderella and the Czech movie Three Wishes for Cinderella (Tri orísky pro Popelku) which in Norwegian tradition is always showing on Christmas eve. Our model was Trine Eide. I called NTNU and asked to use their building for location and got a yes.
Having helping me out as an assistant on this shoot was my friend Sascha Njaa. Before the photo shoot we went to the location places and angles fit for a backdrop. The photos were to be put in Tina’s final portfolio and viewed at a catwalk show the students at H2-Akademiet had put together later that month.

Having found quite a few spots to shoot at the location I was able to shoot a huge variation for the series. This particular photo was shot in a large window facing south, at the opposite side I had my huge bed sheet reflector which gave me enough light to get a decent exposure in the front of the model. Having a stylist doing clothing, hair and make-up doing the styling of your photo shoots helps you a great deal getting the photos you want to shoot. Have common understanding on what your theme and photo style should be. Tina passed her exam and is now working as a hairdresser at Heads Up Hårsalong på Byåsen and a freelance stylist.

The lilith Linda Fjølstad was doing an avant garde fashion shoot at Øysand in Melhus this August. Styling was done by Marthe Engdal and makeup was done by Tina Larsen (fstyle.blogg.no).

I’ve been working quite a lot lately and haven’t had the time to do post-processing on the last few jobs, nor published anything. But here are some shots from my most recent shoot with Linda Fjølstad from Trend Models at Øysand in Melhus a few weeks ago. Helping me out with styling was Marthe Engdal, who is currently in London studying at London College of Fashion, and Tina Larsen (fstyle.blogg.no) from Heads Up hårstudio doing hair and make-up.

Here are two portraits I shot of Kristine Hove Røsok in April this year. The idea behind the pictures are not very deep, I would mainly do something I usually used to do, paint the model black. The light is relatively flat to give the smoothest possible background and to bring in the most detail where it is black, that is, most of the picture. It is these situations I’m glad I’m standing on the back of the camera, considering that Christine had to go through the whole city after we were done. I can not recall, but I think she had washed off most of the black paint before she left.

As you may see in the pictures is the main light is positioned in the opposite angle than the light diagram I have attached the thread. I also photographed at an aperture f/6.3 so the light measurements contained in the diagram is also incorrect. The reason is that the chart is copied and reused from a previous shoot with Marion Dyrvik Homlong (2010) where I used almost the same set-up. However, the diagram can be used as a kind of recipe to replicate the images. Hope it comes in handy.

Andre del av opptaket mitt med modellen Malin Wannebo Varslott. Hår og make-up er gjort av Susanne Amalie Nilsen fra H2-Akademiet med fokus på et avant garde-preg. Sko er lånt fra Bianco Footwear i Nordre Gate og kjolen er lånt fra Oasis i Olav Trygvassonsgate. Smykket er detSusanne som står for.

Lysoppsettet

Lysoppsettet er noe jeg har lenge hatt lyst til å prøve, men aldri helt fått det til før nå. Poenget er at modellen skal være veldig overlyst, men heller ikke undereksponert under øynene og forsida av modellen. Det skal også gå en ganske markert kant på bakgrunnen før buen starter og.
Det jeg gjorde var å sette en blitslampe med en 60×60 softboks på en bom rett over modellen. Jeg festet sort papp på bakerste del, den lengst bort fra kameraet, med tape for å få flagget ut eventuelle strølys som skulle komme på bakgrunnen. På hver side av bakgrunnen satte jeg to sorte isoporplater for å mørkne den grå bakgrunnen enda mer. Deretter satt jeg to isoporplater på forsida av modellen som reflekterte lys tilbake på modellen for å slippe undereksponeringa og helt til slutt satt jeg en oktal softboks pekende mot veggen bak meg for å få enda mer fyllys inn i bildet og lette opp skyggepartiene ytterligere.

Under ser du en liten skisse over lysoppsettet jeg brukte. Føler kanskje ikke tegneferdighetene mine er helt rettferdiggjort igjennom skissen, men håper dere allikevel forstår hvordan lysoppsettet fungerte.

Her er to bilder fra fashion-opptaket jeg hadde med Malin Wannebo Varslott i helga. Det er første gangen Malin står foran kameraet, men på tross av det gjorde hun en brukbar jobb. Hår og sminke er gjort av Susanne Amalie Nilsen fra H2-Akademiet. Med fokus på håret gjorde planla vi et Avant Garde-inspirert opptak. Fun fact er at det er en dorull surret inn i håret til Malin for å få det til å stå og ga oppsettet en morsom kuriositet av et hull rett igjennom. Sko, som ikke vises her, er lånt fra Bianco Footwear i Nordre Gate og kjolen er lånt fra Oasis i Olav Trygvassonsgate. Smykket er det Susanne Amalie som står for.

Lørdag kveld tilbringer jeg på skolen sammen med modellen Malin Wannebo Varslott og frisøreleven ved H2-Akademiet Susanne Amalie Nilsen. Denne gangen, som de fleste andre gangene, er det fashion og mote som står for tur. Planen er å kjøra på med litt avant garde i forhold til hår. Kjolen er lånt fra Oasis i Olav Trygvassonsgate og skoene er lånt fra Bianco i Nordre gate i Trondheim.
Susanne og Amalie holder på å prøve på klær nå, så jeg bør vel være klar om få strakser.

Nå blir det en kjapp middag før turen går til Rick’s Café i Trondheim for å fotografere Start HiSTs semesterlige arrangement, Gründerlounge. På programmet står Håvard Utheim som konferansier, Entrepenørskolen fra NTNU skal i tillegg til Harald Kjeldstad fra Siva og Atmel fra Silicon Valley stå for forelesningene og som litt ekstra underholdning er Orkdalsbandet Irresistible kjent fra X-Factor 2010 opptre.

Her er bak kulissene-bildene fra hårshowet på Crash Nattklubb Lørdag 6. November. Noen av modellene og frisørene hadde holdt det gående siden tolv den formiddagen og frem til halv ti på kvelden med både frisering, sminking og å lære seg koreografi til catwalken. Selve visninga varte i rundt ett kvarter.

Her er et portrett jeg tok av Lisa B. Holden i forbindelse med Susanne Amalie Nilsens eksamensoppgave på H2-Akademiet. Temaet for oppgaven hennes var “Monument” hvor hun har brukt noen av bildene jeg hadde fra før som inspirasjon, krøllet håret til Lisa og lagt på sorte fjær på øyelokkene.

Tidligere i dag var jeg å fotograferte Tripod både i studio og ute på location og straks skal jeg på Byhaven og fotografere sminking av modeller til H2 Hårshowet som skal være på Crash klokken 21 i kveld. Tripod spilte på Blæst under So Fucking What! Grunge Tribute somv var et arrangement til hyllest av Grunge-musikken på nitti-tallet. I morgen skal jeg til Granåsveien og fotografere et rehabilitert fabrikkbygg på oppdrag fra Logg for så å skyte bilder til en digital montasje-oppgave på skolen. Travel helg sa du?
