Today we had evaluation this week, the group picture. Roar was a bit amazed by the picture and liked it a lot. I believe this is the first picture by me he really liked, at last. The next project is photographing a poster for Trondheim Jazzfest. Since I have a photo shoot of four soldiers in an hour, I don’t have time to get the specs for this task as he, the teacher, is going to announce them at twelve o’clock.

Lighting the scene

I set up two speedlights (Nikon SB-900) as a sandwich on each side of the models and a third one on the right (SB-800) with a white umbrella pointing at the floor. This is to eliminate the harsh shadows on the floor that the two sandwich-lights will set of. On the left side I have a Elinchrom Quadra at two thirds of the power. Shot the whole scene at 1/125s shutter, an aperture of f/8.0 at ISO200. The scene was built with the David LaChapelle – Gym-story picture in the back of my mind. The whole series is here. The gym machine looked a bit space-age-70′s, so I added a equal backdrop in the windows just to give it a bit more retro feel instead of just the black sky that originally were there.

Today I were shooting group portrait of a bunch of instructors at 3T Pirbadet for my assignment group portrait at work. I was thinking about both asking the fire department, some friends at the café Bare BlÃ¥bær at Solsiden and the army if they would be so kind as to lend me some soldiers. The fire department had a major exercise today and the one hour notice was a bit to much to ask. My friends at Bare BlÃ¥bær were a bit too late to reply and the army had the time tomorrow. 3T on the other hand, and my instructors, were so kind as to set a side a few hours for me and lend me their location. This first photo is just a test photo of my reflection in the window. I’ve set up two Nikon SB-900 on each side with white umbrellas and one SB-800 as a main light in front, 45 degrees in the left of the image. This flash were replaced by a Elinchrom Quadra flash head.
The first grader from school,Jon Danielsen, were so kind to assist me and take some behind the scenes-pictures for me at my photo shoot. Looking forward to see them.

By the way, since we have a bit more time to plan the next picture, till Tuesday, I am going to shoot the army picture tomorrow afternoon just because I can.

Her er andre del av bildeserien min tatt på Norsk Fotofagskole i studio, av Aina Asbjørnsen, yogainstruktør på 3T. Det var egentlig meningen at jeg i skrivende stund skulle være med på yogatimen hennes i dag, som takk, men presterte å sovne av etter en alkoholfri, men ytterst så morsom fotofagskolefest i går.

Dette portrettet av Aina Asbjørnsen er fotografert i studio med 4 blitser. To på bakfra med normal-reflektor og mot modellen, ca en stopp over hovedlyset. Hovedlyset er satt på bom, 45 grader over med grid. Som fyllys er det satt en softboks mot veggen bak meg som er målt en stopp under hovedlyset. Bakgrunnen er orginalt hvit, men ligger ca en og en halv stopp under hovedeksponeringa for å gi en jevn og grå bakgrunn.

Ikke noen dypere mening med disse portrettene i mugshot-stil enn at vi bare kødda i studio. Aina Asbjørnsen så var sporty og stille opp med bare en hvit pappbit over puppene, noe som resulterte i ymse påfunn. Kanskje ikke så veldig interessant utad bortsett fra at man kanskje kan lese litt personlighet i bildene.
