Last evening I was in Olavshallen photographing the dance show “Dans o’hoi!”, as described in their event on facebook; “(…) a colorful dance show, directed and performed by Flamenco Trondheim and NTNUi Ballroom. Music is performed live by Trondheim World Music Ensemble and FlamenCompaniet. This is a show that’s perfect for anyone who wants an exotic and unforgettable evening and an inspiring and energetic start to the new year.”. In my opinion it might have been for an audience with a bit more special interest in dance than I have, but all in all I enjoyed the show having a front row seat and photographing the whole event.
Below is a little clip I shot during the dance show with a action camera mounted on top of my DSLR. The band playing is Moron Brothers with the band Rancid, not quite the world music style that were playing at the show.

In the beginning of January this year I shot a small series of Nicole Sunde for Tremd Models. It was a bit cold that morning and as you can see from the shots, the outfits that the model wore weren’t that warm. We used Mercur Senteret as a base where we could change clothes, take short to warm up the model with hot chocolate and evaluate what we had shot.
With me on location I had photographer Lisbeth Vorren to help me out meeter the light, doing the reflector and wind works and helping out with the ideas. Check out her amazing work at www.fotografvorren.com. The whole shoot was a bit relaxed and not stressed. The only thing we had to consider was that the light was varying and fading fast as the clock passed noon. After the first round I found out that I had shot just on the small JPG-setting, I might have flicked the quality switch on my camera while I was trying to change the ISO-speed. It might be a great tip to always check what quality you are shooting at even though you are sure you are shooting RAW.
Unlike the previous three series I published of Eva-Marie Frisnes, Rebecca Løckra and Maren Elise Aasen, this series is just natural lit with the help of just one, big, white reflector.

This weekend I plan to continue working with TEMPO shooting documentary and at a concert they are playing at Trondheim Calling. Saturday I am shooting a portrait series and a dance event (Dans o’hoi! at Olavskvartalet and finally a bridal show at Britannia on Sunday. Monday I am traveling to Copenhagen to shoot Copenhagen Fashion Week for Runway Passport and doing some model tests with local models.

Second part from my photo shoot with Eva-Marie Frisnes (Trend Models). I am still working with the direct flash styled photos. It is easy and concentrates more of what is in the photo, the subject, rather than setting a mood with a location.
The settings I usually use in these types of shots are a 50mm lens at a f-stop around 4, an ISO-speed at 100ISO and a shutter above 1/125. The most important part of setting the shutter speed is to block the ambient light leaving just the flash gun to freeze the photo. You can the built-in pop-up flash on your camera, or a speedlight. In my case I used a SB-900 mounted on a flash bracket adjusting it to be as close to the lens as possible. This gives you almost no shadow behind the model both in portrait and landscape mode. Using the pop-up flash the light source stands a bit off-set from the lens giving a slightly larger shadow. To get the most out of the flash I varied the speedlight to fire at 1/8 to 1/16 of full power, and also used the i-TTL-funciton. Shooting the documentary for Tempo and their release concert, I used just the pop-up flash on my camera to light the scenes. As with the shots of Eva-Marie, this gives the images a bit more raw feel than if I had lit every scene with a flash head or just used the ambient light.

Lately I’ve been working with a rather huge project, something that I am not that familiar with, producing a music video for the band Tempo and releasing their new single last friday, Deilig.
We had three days of filming, starting at the end of November using the local concert scene Blæst as location. The band had invited a hand full of extras who were to play in the “main scene” of the video which was a party scene where the band played among the audience. Ove Aunan helped out rigging light, Marthe Røkke Lund helped out as assistant producer / photographer and Hilde Sveli did hair and make-up for these scenes. The second day of filming we used the guitarists apartment shooting mood-shots of the main character Tonje Pettersen and the cover poster. Last and third day of filming was spent at Ladehammeren where we shot running scenes.
Working together with May Lill Morseth Løhre editing the music video we finally did the finishing touches the night before release.
Equipment I used shooting this video a Nikon D800, 35mm and 24mm and a 70-200mm, mountend on a rig from Gini Rigs (Extreme 17), which is an aluminum, light weight off-set rig for the “static shots” and close ups. I also used a a Glidecam HD4000 for the dynamic shots, running scenes and panning around the audience. Since this was the first time using this type of equipment on a professional job, I had to teach my self in a couple of weeks how to operate the different rigs and balancing the Gldiecam correctly. It has been a steep learning curve, but I am quite satisfied with the result.

Last Friday Tempo had invited a lot of friends to Orklapøbben for their release concert and the premiere of the music video (above), around 100 people showed up to the event. I helped the guys out shooting a little documentary following them through the evening until early morning.

Lately I’ve been working with this band Tempo for a while photographing promo pictures, music-video, promo-video and as featured in this post, a single cover. The single cover was shot during the second day of filming the music video for their new single Deilig, which is due to be released the 18th of January, 2013. Without revealing too much, I may mention that the model on the cover is also starring as the main character in the music video. The day before yesterday Tempo played at a newly opened club in Orkanger. I shot a little video during their concert there and this is how it turned out. The opening night got a bit of a negative attention in the local news paper over dramatizing the situation, but with a little more preparations and planning it could be a nice place for a get together.

At 12 minutes past 12, the 12th of December, 2012 the world premiere on the Hobbit was showing on Nova Kino in Trondheim. A lot of fans had dressed up in amazing costumes and I was there documenting for Trondheim Kino.

For the past recent weeks I’ve been working on two CD-Cover projects and promotional photos for some Norwegian artists and musicians. One of the project is for a band called Tempo who consists of Thomas Løseth (vocal) from Orkdal, Daniel Mandal (guitar) also from Orkdal, Andreas Nergård (drums) from Selbu and Ole Adrian Heggli (synth) from Steinkjer. The photos posted in here are shot for their promotional material and is shot at Byåsen in Trondheim using mainly natural lighting. I’ve been also working on their new music video “Deilig” with the producer May Lill Morseth Løhre currently studying at NTNU. The single was scheduled to be released the 12th of December, 2012, but it is being delayed until early January 2013.

Here is the fifth part of the hair show at Julecup 2012. Hair dressers from Oi Hår og Velvære and stylists from Norsk Fotofagskole did the hair, make-up and styling for this show. Lighting on the catwalk wasn’t very photographic friendly casting hard shadows and on the models faces and clothes, but I found a few spots that was even lit and tried to concentrate on shooting my photos when the models were in those specific areas.

Yesterday Foto.no published a photo I shot in Marrakesh, Morocco in February 2011. The article is about my old school having an exhibition in Essaouira with previous work of students at Norsk Fotofagskole has shot during their study trip to Morocco, called Ansikter (faces).

The two boys on the bicycle was on their way home from school. Even though traffic is unsafe and they both knew the hazardous of cycling this way, I believe the boy hanging around his friend or brother is very confident in him.
